Fulcrum Point New Music Project is a Chicago-based contemporary music ensemble dedicated to creating and presenting innovative musical experiences. Since its founding in 1998, the organization has championed new works by contemporary composers while connecting audiences with adventurous and thought-provoking music.
As the recipient of the 2026 Tulipán Cultural Connection Award, Fulcrum Point New Music Project will present the Chicago György Kurtág Festival, a three-concert celebration honoring the life and music of renowned Hungarian composer György Kurtág. Bringing together musicians from Chicago and across the country, the festival will showcase more than 300 minutes of Kurtág's music, which is the largest concentrated presentation of his work ever performed as part of a single festival. The performances will celebrate Kurtág's 100th birthday while introducing American audiences to one of Hungary's most influential living composers.
Presented in Chicago, the festival will create new opportunities for audiences and performers to engage with Kurtág's music through live performances and professionally recorded audio and video documentation. By expanding access to his work, Fulcrum Point aims to strengthen appreciation for Kurtág's enduring artistic legacy in the United States and beyond.
