Grant Currier is an up-and-coming author and a descendant of Hungarian immigrants who settled in East Cleveland, Ohio. His work draws on a deep personal connection to both the Rust Belt and Hungary, two regions defined by resilience, transition, and inherited stories. He earned his PhD in English and Creative Writing from Oklahoma State University, received a Fulbright grant to teach at the University of Debrecen, and has published fiction in nationally recognized journals.
As the recipient of the 2025 Tulipán Art & Culture Award, Grant will develop The Wild Saints of Emeric Park: Hungarian-American Lives in Fiction, a novel-in-stories set in a fictional Rust Belt neighborhood shaped by Hungarian immigrants and their descendants. The 11 interconnected stories explore migration, cultural inheritance, and community dislocation through recurring symbols, characters, and places.
With four stories already completed, Grant will use this support to finish the collection, conduct interviews in Hungarian-American communities across the region, and host public readings. Through this work, he continues to illuminate the evolving Hungarian-American experience and the enduring power of cultural memory.
